Cousins Maine Lobster, food truck with ‘Shark Tank’ fame, debuts in Charlotte – Charlotte Business Journal

A lobster-themed food truck that gained notoriety after appearing on popular reality TV show "Shark Tank" has splashed into the Charlotte market.

The Cousins Maine Lobster food truck dishes up a variety of lobster-inspired dishes, including quesadillas, grilled-cheese sandwiches, tots and tacos. The menu also includes lobster rolls, like the Maine, which is served chilled with mayonnaise on a New England-style roll, and the Connecticut, served warm with butter and lemon.

Prices for specialties and rolls range from $12.95 to $16.95.

Lobster bisque, New England clam chowder and a few extra items round out the menu.

Maine natives and cousins Jim Tselikis and Sabin Lomac launched Cousins Maine Lobster in 2012 with a single truck and a small staff.

As the concept started taking off, the duo appeared on the fourth season of "Shark Tank" that same year. The show gives entrepreneurs the chance to pitch their businesses in front a panel of celebrity investors to earn funding for their ideas. Barbara Corcoran, a millionaire real-estate mogul, bought into the cousins’ business model and partnered with them.

The food truck debuted in Southern California but has since expanded to about a dozen states across the country. It rolled into North Carolina’s Triangle area back in 2015.

Cousins Maine Lobster also has started opening brick-and-mortar locations, including one that is "coming soon" to Raleigh, according to its website.

In Charlotte, the red-and-black food truck makes its first stop today at SouthPark mall, where it’ll be parked until 9 p.m. On Friday, it’ll be in Ballantyne for an annual Earth Day event and, later, at Divine Barrel Brewing in NoDa from 5-9 p.m.

Chris and Caroline Papp are local franchisees of the Cousins Maine Lobster food truck, which also offers catering service.
